Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve are in the FISD Challenge Cup Regional Finals as they cruised to a 2-0 win over Hangover United at Kamuzu Stadium on Thursday.
The young Bullets will face Mangochi United on Monday as they look for a spot in the last 16 of the competition.
Bullets would have taken a lead five minutes into the game after a miscommunication between a Hangover defender and his goalkeeper but Hassan Kajoke saw his shot cleared off the line.
It was four minutes later when Gift Jana put Bullets Reserve ahead after wingback Nickson Nyasulu overpowered his opponent on the right flank before putting the ball behind Hangover defenders and the midfielder was well-positioned to tap it in.
David Daudi doubled the lead at the stroke of the half hour mark when he volleyed from outside the 18-yard area into the far right corner of the net.
Hangover came close in the 53rd minute with a powerful drive, but were denied by Eliasi Misi who did fantastic in between Bullets posts.
The hosts introduced former Blantyre United central midfielder Jide Mbandambanda who neutralized Bullets attack and started mounting pressure in search of a goal, however they could not break young BB’s defense.
Idana had a chance to increase Bullets lead in the 69th minute after receiving a down ball from Kajoke in the penalty box, however the midfielder had his shot saved by the goalkeeper.
With three minutes to go, Jana made a great run on the left flank to overpower two challengers and was left with the ‘keeper to beat, unfortunately his weak shot ended into the palms of the goalkeeper, who also denied Patrick Mwaungulu a chance to score as he stopped his volley in added time.
