The first 2019 Blantyre mini-derby between Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve and BE Forward Wanderers Reserve is set for this Sunday.
The ThumbsUp Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) League match will be played at the Chilomoni Stadium.
Initially, the mini-derby was slated for Kamuzu Stadium, but was moved to Chilomoni as the country’s soccer mecca will on Sunday host a TNM Super League game involving Tigers FC and Savenda Chitipa United.
Tigers and visitors Chitipa United were scheduled to meet at Mulanje Boma Park, the former’s second-home ground, before the Super League of Malawi changed the venue to Kamuzu Stadium, forcing the Premier Division runners SFRA to take the junior derby to Chilomoni.
Last season the two sides met thrice, in the then Chitetezo Mbaulo-sponsored SRFA League and the Fisd Challenge Cup.
In the first round of the league, the two sides settled for a 1-1 draw at BAT Ground before Bullets Reserve defeated the Nomads junior side 2-1 at Kamuzu Stadium.
In the Fisd Challenge, NBB Reserve dumped rivals out of the competition in the quarter-finals on post-match penalties which ended 4-2.
Bullets Reserve are currently fifth on the ThumbsUp SRFA League log table with 29 points, having played 15 games. They have won nine games, drawn twice and lost four while scoring 31 goals and conceding 17.
BE Forward Wanderers Reserve are 13th and have collected 14 points from 15 games. They have only managed three wins and five draws while losing seven matches. The junior Nomads have scored 22 goals and have let in 27 goals.
Red Lions, who were relegated from the TNM Super League last season, top the Premier Division table with 37 points from 14 games.
