Sankhani Mkandawire’s unavailability for Nyasa Big Bullets’ two away fixtures against Silver Strikers on Sunday and Civil Sporting Club next Wednesday in the TNM Super League has been confirmed.
The defender was injured in the first half of The People’s Team’s 2-0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks on Wednesday and the shoulder sprain is expected to keep him on the sidelines for at least two weeks.
Bullets head coach Kalisto Pasuwa confirmed the news during the pre-match press conference held at the club house on Friday when he provided an update to reporters on the list on injured players.
“Sankhani will not be part of the traveling squad because of an injury he sustained against Kamuzu Barracks. It is very unfortunate that it is our defence which is being affected because all the injuries that we have are defenders,” he said.
Added the coach: “He will only miss this trip but he is likely to be available for selection again for our remaining two games at home.
“Apart from him, we have received players who have been on the sidelines due to injuries and this is a timely boost for us considering the nature of games remaining before wrapping up the season.”
MacPharlen Mgwira and Pilirani Zonda resumed full training this week after being on the sidelines for a couple of weeks due to injuries.
Apart from Mkandawire, Bullets will also be without captain John Lanjesi and left-back Precious Sambani, who are undergoing rehabilitation following knee and shoulder injuries, respectively.
Bullets left Blantyre for the Capital City on Saturday morning for the two TNM Super League assignments.
The log leaders are just a point above fellow title chasers Be Forward Wanderers with 58 points from 26 games. The Nomads have 57 points from the same number of games; they host Karonga United on Sunday before taking on Mighty Tigers on Wednesday.
